Our Management Organization - PriMed
PriMed Management Consulting Services is the management services organization (MSO) that organized Hill Physicians in 1984 and has played a key role in Hill Physicians' success. The approximately 500 employees of PriMed support our physicians by providing the technology infrastructure, claims processing, customer service, patient and case management and authorization reviews that allow physicians to do what they do best – practice medicine.

Darryl Cardoza
Chief Executive Officer
In 1981, Darryl and Steve McDermott founded PriMed, combining their interests in and experience with physician organizations and the HMO model. Darryl served as the Chief Operating Officer for PriMed for 31 years, and in April of 2012 succeeded Steve as President and CEO. Prior to initiating work with Hill Physicians and PriMed, he worked with the California State Department of Health, focusing on alternative health system development. Darryl also worked in organized medicine in Washington, D.C. before becoming the executive director of the Fischer Mangold Medical Group in California. Darryl received his bachelor's degree in business from California State University, Sacramento.
David Joyner
Chief Operating Officer
As COO, David is the senior executive over contracting, administration, physician network management and medical services. Prior to joining PriMed, David served for fourteen years as an executive of Blue Shield of California, Hill’s not-for-profit health plan partner with more than 3 million members. His most recent position was senior vice president for network management where he oversaw $2 billion in large group employer, specialty benefits and stop loss insurance. His career also has included serving as president of Vivra Women's Health, a physician network and practice management company, and as an advisor for Bain & Company, a global consulting entity.
David grew up in England and received his MA in chemistry from the University of Oxford and his MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Rosaleen Derington
Chief Medical Services Officer
Rosaleen is responsible for network management, clinical support, utilization management, quality, grievance and appeals, case management, authorizations, health education, and peer review. She joined PriMed in 1998, bringing over 20 years of leadership experience in information technology, customer operations, and project management gained through her years with companies such as AT&T, Telfort, Fiber Street and Cingular Wireless. Rosaleen holds a bachelor's degree in finance and personnel management and a master's in business administration from San Diego State University. She has also completed graduate certificate studies in communications from the University of Southern California and in statistical processing engineering at Duke University.
Craig Lanway
Chief Information Officer
Craig joined PriMed in 1997 and is responsible for directing information systems and technology development, including EHR and electronic commerce strategies for Hill Physicians. His experience includes over 30 years in healthcare, in settings ranging from acute care hospitals to managed care organizations. Craig is active in several professional organizations and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences.
Craig received his bachelor's and master's degrees in biological sciences from California State University, Chico. He went on to earn a certificate in managed healthcare administration from the University of San Francisco.
Rick Messman
Chief Financial Officer
Rick joined Hill Physicians and PriMed as chief financial officer in 2005. As CFO, overseeing daily financial operations, Rick develops strategies to support the long-term financial health of the company. In his role at Hill Physicians he draws on his experience in the fields of finance and healthcare. Prior to joining PriMed, Rick worked for 25 years in public accounting, specializing in healthcare. His career included 19 years as a partner at Arthur Andersen, LLP and KPMG, LLP. He received his undergraduate degree in accounting from New York University and his master's in business administration from George Washington University.

Dan Robinson
Chief Administrative Officer
Dan joined PriMed in 2000 and is responsible for human resources, corporate education and safety, customer services, claims, marketing and facilities management. Prior to joining PriMed, Dan held a variety of senior level positions with Kaiser Permanente, Pacific Gas and Electric, and Pacific Gas Transmission Company. He also worked in sales and marketing functions for PepsiCo. Dan serves as a Board Member, Emeritus for the Court Appointed Special Advocates of Contra Costa County. His education includes a bachelor's degree in accounting and an MBA in finance and human resources, both earned from Michigan State University.
Wendy Chow
Vice President of Legal Services
Wendy Chow is responsible for overseeing and directing legal and regulatory issues on a company-wide basis. Wendy also serves as the chief privacy officer for both PriMed and Hill Physicians. Prior to joining PriMed, Wendy practiced law at two national law firms and served as in-house counsel at a trade association and with the Federal Communications Commission. She holds a bachelor's degree in artificial intelligence from Stanford University and a juris doctor from Georgetown University.
Terry Hill, M.D.
Vice President of Medical Group Services
Terry Hill, M.D., FACP, was the first medical director for geriatrics at Hill Physicians in the 1990s. He left private practice for executive roles at Laguna Honda Hospital, Lumetra, and the federal court receivership of California’s prison medical system. He has held clinical faculty appointments at Stanford and UC San Francisco and has led professional associations and coalitions in long-term care and palliative care. His writing has addressed quality measurement, physician accountability, ethnogeriatrics, and the dynamics of moral judgment in clinical care. He is a board member of the California Institute for Nursing and Health Care and the California Association of Long Term Care Medicine.
