Pack a Healthy Picnic

When your family's out and about this summer at one of Hill's Community Events, festivals, concerts and holiday celebrations forget the concession stand hot dogs or fatty fast foods and keep your outing healthy by packing a healthy picnic.

Hill's Registered Dieticians' and Wellness Experts' collection of healthy recipes will keep your summer picnics healthy this year. Here's a few suggestions:

Skip the fried chicken.

Make these alternatives the day before and chill overnight:

Unfried Chicken

Honey-Crusted Chicken

Spicy Southern Barbecued Chicken

 Switch to Healthy Salads

Instead of the traditional mayo-covered potato salad try one of our healthier versions:

Overnight Coleslaw

Marinated Bean Salad

Or make a quick sweet potato salad by boiling chunks of yams until tender, tossing with olive oil and orange juice, add some raisins and cinnamon and serve cold.

Go Mediterranean

The mediterranean diet is high in nutrients and healthy fats and low in calories and cholesterol. Pack more nutrition with these picnic additions.

Couscous Salad with Dried Cherries

Mediterranean Layered Dip

Healthier Thirst Quenchers

Skip the sweetened fruit juices and sodas and pack seltzer mixed with all-natural fruit juice.

Freeze bottled water the night before and use as cold packs to keep your picnic food cold.

Brew some green tea, add honey and lemon to taste and cool for another healthy alternative to the tradition. Or try our recipe for:

Spiced Iced Tea

Finish with Fresh Fruit

Bring a chilled whole watermelon, cantaloupe, or honeydew and slice it open on the spot. Mother Nature’s packing works great to keep fresh fruit cool and fresh.
